In 1906, Otto Keller started a family tradition of creating the highest quality confections and ice cream. Using the same candy making techniques, recipes and equipment purchased by Otto at the turn of the century, that tradition continues today.
With a ribbon candy crimper manufactured in 1886 and a book, Otto taught himself the complicated art of ribbon candy. Passed down through four generations and still crimping, Kellerhaus is one of the few places in the world, and the only place in NH, still spinning delicately thin ribbon candy by hand.
The exceptional thinness of the ribbon, rich colors and high gloss of the spun sugar set it apart from any other holiday treat. Aside from its nostalgic value, the rich flavors just melts on your tongue! Demand for it is so high at Kellerhaus that they know it is still the perfect holiday gift.
Kellerhaus also makes its own wintergreen and peppermint candy canes. The glossy canes range in length from four inches to twenty-four inches and sometimes larger! Like snowflakes, no two are alike. Nothing compares to the heft, satiny sheen and rich taste of a real, old-fashioned candy cane.
In the early 1920's Otto introduced homemade ice cream – made from ice harvested from Lake Winnipesaukee - and was the first person to offer it year 'round. The region’s first "Top it Yourself Ice Cream Buffet" offers the same fresh, premium ice cream and toppings still made right in "the Haus"!
Kellerhaus is now internationally famous for its old fashioned ice cream parlor. With a panoramic view of Lake Winnipesaukee and the mountains, the parlor is a great spot to sit, watch the seasons change and enjoy the tunes from the nickelodeon. As part of its 100th Anniversary celebration, Kellerhaus offers $1.00 a scoop ice cream cones every Wednesday.
For those within driving distance, Kellerhaus is well known for its ten unusual gift rooms full of unique accessories, gifts, stocking stuffers, advent calendars, toys and custom gift baskets. The old world charm, player piano, animated Bavarian deer and elves make Kellerhaus a nice day trip for all ages.
Worth the trip and open year ‘round, Kellerhaus always offers free samples!
