Christmas Fern (Polystichum acrostichoides)

Christmas Fern (Polystichum acrostichoides) popularly known by this name because it is the only fern that remains green throughout the winter. Not considered edible but there are more than 25 different medicinal uses listed in the dictionary of Native American Ethnobotany, mostly by the Iroquois and the Cherokee but also the Micmac. http://naeb.brit.org/uses/search/...

Very hardy evergreen fern of deep, rich green color. Leaflets are lance shaped in dense clusters. Shade, partial shade.

Whether used in borders or as a background, ferns enhance any garden with their gracefulness and their beautiful varying shades of green. Easy to grow almost anywhere…thrive even when other plants fail.
