Waterville Valley Resort Ski Area

Waterville Valley

Prior to 1965, when the Waterville Company, Inc. was formed, Waterville had established a skiing “beach-head” with the quaint Snow’s Mountain Ski area and the Waterville Hotel, a Grand Hotel located at the base of Snow’s Mountain on the other side of the valley from today’s Mt. Techumseh ski area.

In 1965 Olympian Tom Corcoran headed the newly formed Waterville Company that purchased almost all the privately held land in the Valley and began the process of developing a year-round resort. Though ownership of the resort now lies largely in the hands of the National Ski Industry player Boothcreek, the development process has been ongoing.

Mt Techumseh, the mountain on which the ski area is located, is one of New Hampshire’s storied four thousand footers and boasts 52 trails including gentle learning areas, wide intermediate trails and the very challenging black diamond bump runs of Sunnyside including True Grit and Bobby’s Run (named in honor of Bobby Kennedy who loved skiing at Waterville). Waterville’s two terrain parks, Exhibition Park and Little Slammer, feature a Superpipe, lots of terrain features and rails. On any given day you will find both recreational skiers and boarders and Waterville Valley’s renowned Black & Blue Trail Smashers Ski & Board Club testing their skills against the challenges of the parks.

In the early days of Freestlye skiing, Waterville Valley was the eastern cutting edge of the sport with Wayne Wong, Floyd Wilkie, George Askevold and other pioneers calling it their home base.

There is no doubt that Waterville Valley ranks among the “Big Dogs” of skiing not just in NH, but in the entire Northeastern US as well.
